How to scan and keep receipts on your iPhone
Thermal-paper receipts fade within months, and they're easy to lose before an expense report or a return. Scanning them as you get them keeps a clean, searchable copy you can send whenever you need it.
- 1
Flatten the receipt
Lay it on a dark surface so the edges stand out. Long receipts can be scanned as one page as long as they fit in frame.
- 2
Scan it
Tap Scan and hold steady. Choose B&W or Auto for faded print; both boost the contrast.
- 3
File it
Move it to a folder such as Expenses or Returns, and rename it if you like.
- 4
Find and send it later
Search by the store name or anything else printed on it. Share as PDF or as an image to your expense tool or email.
Scanning a pile at once
Each receipt usually belongs in its own document so you can find and send it separately. For a trip, though, scanning all the receipts into one document gives you a single PDF to attach to the expense report.
Faded receipts
Scan receipts as soon as you can. If the print has already faded, B&W with the strength turned up often brings it back enough to read.
Questions
Can ScanMojo read the total from a receipt?
ScanMojo recognizes all the text on a receipt so you can search and copy it, but it doesn't fill in expense fields automatically.
Can I scan a receipt someone emailed me as a photo?
Yes. Import it from Photos or Files and ScanMojo cleans it up like a new scan.
